You need a key for the software, then each video has it's own key. When you install either they register on a Tacx server before the software can be used. The key for the video is then apparently tied to the trainer software licence.

Tacx deprecated TTS4 in 2019 as they moved to their cloud-based RLV trainer software, TDA. While TDA offers some great features and superb video experiences, TTS4 still provides some value for those who had built up extensive libraries of videos, use the local-LAN multiplayer features and Zwift-like VR worlds.
Due to frequent requests regarding the usability of the Tacx Trainer software or alternatives to it, I would like to briefly summarize the main points: TTS4 can not be installed for a long time, but existing installations are not affected and can continue to be used (but I recommend that you make a backup copy via a drive image). As an alternative, I recommend BigRingVR, so that already purchased Real Life Videos can be used normally after a new installation(even if BigRing can read different control files, should be reinstalled, because e.g. the Tacx files have a much worse quality due to the system). I do not recommend Rouvy and GoldenCheetah, because the former application will soon discontinue support for Real Life Videos and the latter does not control any roll resistance. Basically, I cannot give any information about which roller trainers are compatible with any training software. This information can only be found on the manufacturer's website.
Tacx has announced that it will discontinue support for this software on 31.03.2019 and that with a Windows 10 'Major Update' there is a risk that videos will no longer run. But it doesn't have to happen. If you use Windows 7 you won't get any problems. The Tacx Desktop App is not compatible with 3rd party videosand also has extremely poor ratings. Tacx is now a Garmin company so if you experience any issues with a Tacx trainer or with this software, you will need to contact Garmin Support. I called them with several questions, and it appears that Garmin support has not been trained on this software, so they provided no help.
The Tacx desktop training software is divided into 2 applications. Note, these do basically the same thing, but the Tacx Desktop app runs on Windows 10 and Mac, while the Tacx Training app runs on iOS and Android. There is a free download and the free trial period varies but is usually around 15 days.
